Hagen, Jungmann And Overton Claim Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Weekly Honors
May 02, 2011

Stephen Hagen (Texas Tech), Taylor Jugmann (Texas) and Dillon Overton (Oklahoma) have earned Phillips 66 Big 12 baseball weekly honors for games of April 25-May 1, in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference.  This is the second career honor for Hagen (Player of the Week) and Jungmann (Pitcher of the Week), who both earned the distinction earlier this season. Overton collects the Newcomer of the Week award, the second Sooner to do so this season.

Stephen Hagen, Texas Tech, 1B, Jr., Lakebay, Wash. (Eastern Oklahoma College)
Hagen hit .353 with two homers, including a grand slam, six RBI and four walks last week. The junior became the first Texas Tech player since 2009 to record a grand slam when he also hit Tech's first opposite field homer of the year on Tuesday against New Mexico, going 2-for-4 on the day. The first baseman opened the Kansas series going 2-for-4, slamming a ninth-inning home run with TTU trailing by one to send the game into extras, where Tech would eventually win in the 10th. He ended the week going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks against in the series finale against KU. Hagen scored the game-tying run in the ninth before Tech won the game to take the series sweep. Hagen finished the week with a .500 on-base percentage and a .706 slugging percentage.

Taylor Jungmann, Texas, RHP, Jr., 6-6, 220, Temple, Texas (Georgetown)
Jungmann fired his third complete-game shutout of the season in UT's 5-0 series-opening win over 10th-ranked Oklahoma, who entered the weekend as the top hitting team in the league. The right-hander lowered his season ERA to 0.90 and improved to 10-0 on the season. Jungmann allowed just four hits with one walk while striking out nine. He registered 1-2-3 innings in six of the nine frames. The Temple, Texas-native leads the league in wins, ERA, innings pitched, opponents batting average and shutouts while ranking second in strikeouts

Dillon Overton, Oklahoma, LHP, Fr., 6-2, 160, Weatherford, Okla. (Weatherford)
Overton went 2-0 last week with a pair of wins on the road at No. 7 TCU and No. 4 Texas.  In the two outings, the southpaw tossed 8.2 innings with three hits allowed,  a .107 opponent batting average and a 1.04 ERA with six strikeouts. He pitched in relief in both appearances and threw 4.0 innings at TCU on Tuesday with one run and one hit allowed to go along with three strikeouts. On Sunday, the freshman came in for 4.2 relief innings against the Longhorns to improve to 7-3 on the season. He only surrendered two hits to Texas and struck out three. Overton has defeated three ranked opponents this year and ranks second for the Sooners with seven wins.  He also ranks fifth in the Big 12 with seven victories and a 1.75 ERA.  In 11 relief appearances, Overton is 5-1 with a 0.53 ERA, two earned runs and 29 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched.
