Final 2011 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Weekly Award Winners Named
May 23, 2011

Jake Miller (Baylor), Ross Stripling (Texas A&M) and Duke von Schamann (Texas Tech) have earned Phillips 66 Big 12 baseball weekly honors for games of May 16-22, in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference.  This marks the first honor for Miller (Player of the Week) and von Schamann (Newcomer of the Week), while Stripling collects his third Pitcher of the Week recognition this season.

Jake Miller, Baylor, 3B, So., 6-2, 185, Houston, Texas (Stratford)
Miller hit .467 (7-for-15) with two home runs, a double, four RBI and two runs scored to help Baylor to a 3-1 week and a third consecutive Big 12 series win. The third baseman reached base at a .500 clip and slugged a team-leading .933 during the week. He had an RBI double and single in Tuesday's win over Dallas Baptist before hitting the game-tying home run on the ninth pitch of an at-bat in BU's series-opening win vs. No. 13 Oklahoma on Thursday. The sophomore also had two singles in the series opener, finishing 3-for-4.  With Baylor trailing 3-1 in the second game of the OU series, Miller hit another game-tying home run, this time a two-run shot in the sixth inning. He also walked and singled in the game.

Ross Stripling, Texas A&M, RHP, Jr., 6-3, 190, Southlake, Texas (Southlake)
Stripling's four-hit complete game shutout over the No. 4 Longhorns on Sunday gave the Aggies a share of the Big 12 regular season title. The Southlake, Texas, native baffled Texas' hitters all evening and got better as the night went on, retiring the final 14 batters he faced and not allowing a runner past first base after the first inning. Stripling's impressive performance lowered his season ERA to 1.89 and tied him for the most wins in the Conference with 12.

Duke von Schamann, Texas Tech, Fr., RHP, 6-4, Edmond, Okla. (Edmond Santa Fe)
Von Schamann pitched a career-high seven innings while earning the win in Texas Tech's 5-3 series clinching victory over Oklahoma State on Sunday. The freshman held the Cowboys scoreless through seven innings before allowing a solo home run in the eighth inning. He allowed only five hits and didn't walk a batter with three strikeouts in his seventh start of the season. In his last five starts, von Schamann is 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched. While improving to 5-0, von Schamann became the first Tech freshman in over 10 years to start their career 5-0.
