Vick hit .400 (8-for-20) with four doubles, a home run, five RBI, four runs scored and one stolen base in five games last week. His eight hits were all against ranked foes, including seven against the UCLA pitching corps over the weekend. He drew four walks and struck out just once, posting a .480 on-base percentage and .750 slugging percentage. The junior had a sacrifice fly, a single and a walk in the Bears' win over No. 15 TCU on Tuesday. In Wednesday's victory over Texas State, he walked twice. The Kerrville, Texas, product recorded four doubles - all in consecutive at-bats - walked once, scored three runs and collected two RBI in BU's series-opening win at No. 22 UCLA Friday. In the second game of the series, he singled, stole a base and drove in a run before hitting a solo homer and singling in the series finale.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Trent Blank, Baylor, Sr., RHP, 6-2, 190, Columbia, Ill./Columbia
Blank went 2-0 with an 0.00 ERA and allowed only one hit (single) in 7.0 innings over two appearances last week against ranked teams. The senior earned the win versus No. 15 TCU with 4.0 hitless innings on Tuesday and picked up a win at No. 22 UCLA with 3.0 shutout innings on Friday. Blank threw 62 pitches and struck out two against the Horned Frogs, while he fanned one and threw only 30 pitches over 3.0 innings at UCLA. In his appearance against the Bruins, he also stranded an inherited runner on second and faced only one over the minimum.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Chase Stevens, Oklahoma State, Jr., RHP, 5-10, 186, Jr., Blanchard, Okla./Seminole State JC
Stevens recorded two wins last week as the junior transfer totaled 12 innings of work, racking up 23 strikeouts and not allowing an earned run. He surrendered just two hits with opponents hitting just .053 against him. The Blanchard, Okla.-native earned the first win of his OSU career in his debut for the Cowboys, which came Tuesday against Dallas Baptist. In seven innings of work, he recorded 10 strikeouts and gave up just two hits and one run, which was unearned. The right-hander was even more impressive in a relief outing Saturday against Bowling Green State. He entered the game in the fifth inning and, after getting a fly out and issuing a walk, struck out 10 consecutive Falcons over the next two-plus innings. He finished with 13 strikeouts, the most by a Big 12 Conference pitcher this season, and did not allow a hit or run. He currently leads the league with 25 strikeouts.
