Meyer, Newman and Neuse Named Weekly Award Recipients
RELATED LINKS
Mitch Meyer (K-State), Dillon Newman (Baylor) and Sheldon Neuse (Oklahoma) have garnered Big 12 baseball weekly awards for games played March 10-16.

Meyer collects his second career Player of the Week distinction, while this is the first honor for both Newman and Neuse.

This is the second consecutive week the Bears have earned the Pitcher of the Week accolade after Baylor reliever Josh Michalec claimed last week’s honor. It marks the first time since 2005 that BU has won the award in back-to-back weeks.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mitch Meyer, K-State, Jr., OF, Stilwell, Kan./Blue Valley
Meyer batted .538 (7-for-13) with a double, two home runs and nine RBI in four games last week. The junior led the Big 12 in RBI and slugging percentage (1.077), tied for the conference lead in home runs, and finished second in the Big 12 in batting average, total bases (14) and on-base percentage (.625). For the week, he also finished in the top 10 in the Big 12 in hits (7, tied sixth) and walks (3, tied fifth). Meyer was responsible for 20 percent of K-State’s 44 RBI over the week. His .538 batting average also helped K-State post the best team batting average (.401) of any Big 12 team during the week of March 10. He had a career-high four RBI in the Wildcats’ 24-3 victory over Northern Colorado in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. The first of his two home runs during the week was a three-run shot that gave K-State a 5-4 advantage in the sixth inning of the Wildcats’ eventual 6-5 win over Omaha on Tuesday. His second homer was also a three-run shot - this time part of K-State’s six-run second-inning that made it 7-2 in game one on Saturday.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Dillon Newman, Baylor, Sr., RHP, Belton, Texas/Belton
Newman returned to ace form in a 1-0 win on Friday as his outstanding effort on the mound was a huge factor in Baylor snapping No. 23 Texas Tech’s seven-game winning streak in which the Red Raiders had scored at least five runs in each of their last six games. In earning the win, Newman (2-1) gave up six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in a season-high seven innings pitched. Along the way he retired 13 consecutive TTU hitters in his second quality start of the season. On the year, Newman is 2-1 with a 3.08 ERA as he’s given up nine earned runs on 28 hits and eight walks with 27 strikeouts.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Sheldon Neuse, Oklahoma, Fr., 3B, Fort Worth, Texas/Fossil Ridge
Neuse batted .529 (9-for-17) as the Sooners went undefeated in four games last week. The freshman third baseman scored eight runs and drove in two. He totaled six extra-base hits on four doubles and two triples for a 1.000 slugging percentage to go with a .600 on-base percentage. On Tuesday at Globe Life Ballpark in Arlington, Neuse recorded four hits, including two doubles, and scored two runs. He tripled twice against Belmont on Saturday and scored three times with an RBI before going 2-for-3 with three runs, a double and an RBI on Sunday.
