Oklahoma’s Jonathan Gray has been named one of 30 semifinalists for the 2013 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award. This marks the 36th consecutive year that the award has been presented to the nation’s top amateur baseball player.
Gray, the Big 12 Championship’s Most Outstanding Player and First Team All-Big 12 honoree, ranks first in the league in innings pitched (110.0), strikeouts (127) and opponent batting average (.181). He is also tied for first in wins (nine) and games started (15) while his 1.55 ERA ranks second.
Nationally, the junior from Chandler, Okla., ranks fourth in strikeouts and 16th in ERA.
Through may 31, fans will be able to vote on the 2013 GSA by visiting GoldenSpikesAward.com and selecting their favorite amateur player. The three finalists will be announced on June 4.
Previous Big 12 recipients of the Golden Spikes Award include Alex Gordon (Nebraska, 2005) and Jason Jennings (Baylor, 2000).
