Smart, Clyburn Named Menís Basketball Weekly Winners

A pair of guards - freshman Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State) and senior Will Clyburn (Iowa State) - have been named the latest Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week for games of January 28 - February 3. It is Smart's first player honor after he won top rookie two times earlier this year. Clyburn is chosen for the rookie honor for the second straight week and third time overall in 2012-13.

Smart turned in an impressive all-around performance to lead the Cowboys to two victories last week, averaging 23 points and 7.5 rebounds with 10 assists and nine steals. He started with 21 points, seven assists and one turnover in a 78-76 victory over Iowa State. He then tied his career high with 25 points as OSU ended Kansas' 33-game home court winning streak with a 85-80 win. The freshman guard had some key buckets down the stretch as Oklahoma State defeated a top five team on the road for the first time since 1958. In two games, Smart shot 53.1 percent from the floor and 84.6 percent from the free throw line. He leads the Big 12 in steals, while ranking eighth in scoring and sixth in assists this season.

PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Clyburn averaged 21.0 points and 7.0 rebounds and shot 50 percent from the field as Iowa State split games with Oklahoma State and Baylor (79-71 win). The senior guard had 14 points and four rebounds in the two-point loss at OSU. He followed that with a strong performance versus the Bears, finishing with 28 points (17 in the second half) and 10 rebounds. In two games, he made 41.7 (5-of-12) percent of his shots from 3-point range and converted 13-of-14 (.930) from the free throw line. He also grabbed four steals. Clyburn leads all active Big 12 players with 15 double-doubles while his 24 career games with 10 or more rebounds is 10 more than any other student-athlete in the conference.
