Fifteen Big 12 Cross Country teams earned rankings in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason regional poll.
On the men’s side, defending National and Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State remained at No. 1 in the Midwest region. The Cowboys took home a fifth consecutive Big 12 Championship in 2012 and its third NCAA Championship in four years.
Kansas is ranked fifth, moving up one spot from where they finished a year ago, while Oklahoma ranks seventh and Iowa State remains ranked eighth.
Texas was picked second in the South Central Region along with Baylor at No. 15. Texas Tech starts the season ranked No. 11 in the Mountain Region.
For the women, Oklahoma State leads the Big 12 contenders at No. 2. The Cowgirls placed second in last year’s Big 12 Championship. Iowa State starts the season ranked at No. 3, down two spots from last season’s final rankings. Kansas State jumps six spots to No. 13.
Texas is ranked second in the South Central Region, and Baylor checked in sixth along with TCU at No. 8. Texas Tech improved six spots to No. 14 to start the 2013 season.The USTFCCCA preseason national rankings are released Tuesday, Aug. 27.
