With a 5-2 win over in-state rival Texas, the Baylor Bears have clinched at least a share of the 2014 Big 12 regular season title. The Bears sit at 4-1 in conference play.
After upending the seventh-ranked Longhorns, Baylor now sits at 21-6 on the season. The Bears have won 13 of their last 14 matches. Baylor finished its home schedule with a perfect 15-0 record in Waco.
Baylor jumped on the Longhorns early sweeping the doubles point. It was only the fourth time this season BU has won all three doubles matches, but the 20th time the Bears have claimed the initial point.
Baylor has won seven of the last eight and 15 of the last 17 matches between the two teams, including a 6-1 victory in Austin last season to claim a share of the Big 12 title. In the Matt Knoll era, the Bears have amassed an 18-9 record against Texas.
Baylor has won 11 of the last 13 regular-season titles including three of the last four.
Texas can also clinch a share of the title on Saturday when the Longhorns travel to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech. Oklahoma also has the opportunity to earn a share of the title with a Bedlam win over in-state rival Oklahoma State on Sunday.
Next up for the Bears is the Big 12 Championships in Fort Worth. The league's six squads will meet at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Complex April 24-27.
