Sooners Overwhelm Texas In Semifinals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The final game of the night featured No. 1 Oklahoma against No. 4 Texas. During conference play, UT gave OU their first two Big 12 losses as the Longhorns swept the series 2-0.

Texas’ started strong as they scored one run off two hits in their first at-bat. Courtney Craig got on base after a single, then put the Longhorns on the scoreboard first after Loryn Johnson doubled to right center. In the bottom of the second, Karolyne Long answered for the Sooners as she hit a two RBI homerun over the left field fence to give OU the 2-0 lead. The hit by Long extends the streak to seven-straight games in which OU has hit a homerun during Big 12 Championship play.

Oklahoma kept at it as Samantha Ricketts tabbed in three RBI after hitting a single to left, to put her team up 5-1. UT knotched in another tally to begin the fourth as Nadia Taylor was brought in by Shelby Savony. First at the plate for the Sooners in the fifth, Amber Flores drove her 17th homer of year, third at the Big 12 event, over the left field fence. Texas was unable to score in six and seventh, as Oklahoma won 6-2 and advanced to its seventh conference championship game.

Texas sits 38-18 at the end of the their 2008-09 regular season campaign. OU improves to 40-13, 36-17 in league championship play, as the Sooners have now posted 16-straight 40-plus win seasons. Oklahoma has won three titles in the history of the event (1996, 2001, 2007).
