Texas, Kansas State and Iowa State remain ranked in the AVCA national poll. The Longhorns dropped to No. 6, but have been ranked in the top-10 all season long, while K-State moved up to No. 19. The Cyclones sit at No. 25.
The Wildcats are off to their best start in school history with a 9-0 record that includes eight sweeps. K-State is one of six undefeated teams in the top-25 and one of 10 undefeated teams overall nationally.
All nine of the Big 12 teams carry records over .500, with five league teams with one loss or less. Entering the week, 39 teams nationally have just one loss or less.
Big 12 teams combined for a 27-5 record last weekend and will wrap up the majority of non-conference schedules this weekend. Iowa State (No. 25 Northern Iowa), Oklahoma (No. 19 Kentucky) and Texas (No. 14 Minnesota) picked up ranked wins last weekend.
Four league teams will play ranked opponents this weekend with K-State meeting its first ranked foes in No. 10 Minnesota and No. 20 Dayton. No. 23 Illinois and No. 3 Southern California will travel to Texas and TCU, respectively, while Iowa State will host top-ranked Nebraska. For the year, Big 12 teams are 7-8 against non-conference ranked opponents.
Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week Caroline Jarmoc set a Big 12 single-season record with a .824 hitting percentage against Arizona State last Friday. Jarmoc had 14 kills in the four-set match to break the record, which was set in 2007. With her performance last week that included a .545 hitting percentage, Jarmoc took over the league's top spot in that category. She also became the first KU player to earn an offensive honor since 2008. Teammate Brianne Riley also earned a share of the Defensive Player of the Week honor, marking the first time in Jayhawk history that KU has claimed both awards in the same week.
Twenty five matches are on tap for the week, including tournaments for eight of the nine league teams. Although UT and WVU have already played a Big 12 match, the full conference season begins next week with Kansas State at Oklahoma on Wed., Sept. 19, before four league matches on Sat., Sept. 22. The league is 70-17 in non-conference action this season.
Kansas State (9), TCU (8), Kansas (7) and Baylor (6) all have win streaks of six or more matches.
Texas leads the nation in blocks per set with an average of 3.42. Kansas is the only league team ranked in the top-10 in multiple categories nationally - fifth in assists per set (14.12) and seventh in kills per set (14.97).
