Kaitlynn Pelger (Kansas State), Kristen Hahn (Iowa State) and Tiana Dockery (Kansas) are recipients of Big 12 volleyball weekly awards for matches played Sept. 24-30.
Pelger earns her second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season and fifth of her career. The junior also earned the offensive award twice in 2011 and picked up a Rookie of the Week distinction in 2010.
For the third week in a row and seventh time in her career, Hahn captures the Defensive Player of the Week accolade. She earned the award four times in 2011 and has the third-most honors in the category in Conference history. This is the first time an Iowa State player has received three straight weekly awards. As a team, ISU has never received weekly awards in three straight weeks
Dockery becomes the first KU Rookie of the Week since Sept. 20, 2010.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kaitlynn Pelger, Kansas State, MB, Jr., Olathe, Kan.
Pelger helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of wins last week, including a big road win at Baylor. The junior opened the week with 13 kills on 20 swings with only one error to hit .600 against new Big 12 member West Virginia on Thursday. On Saturday, she recorded a double-double as the Wildcats posted their first road win at Baylor since 2008. Pelger had a season-high 23 kills, while adding 12 digs and hitting .321 for the match. On the week, the Olathe, Kan.-product averaged 5.14 kills per set while hitting .397. She also contributed 3.00 digs per set. Pelger is the only player in the Big 12 ranked in the top 10 in five different statistical categories in overall matches. In conference-only matches, she leads the league with a 4.90 average.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kristen Hahn, Iowa State, L, Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Hahn averaged 6.00 digs per set and became the first Big 12 player to reach 30 digs in a conference match last week as the Cyclones split matches with Kansas and TCU. Hahn's 33 digs, a key to the Cyclones' 0-2 rally to force a fifth set at Kansas, set a season-high and marked the third 30-plus dig match in the two-year starter's career. Hahn's average of 6.08 digs per set in league play this season tops the Big 12, with no other player averaging more than 4.25 digs per set. Her consistent contributions have helped make Iowa State the only Big 12 team averaging more than 17.00 digs per set against conference foes (17.67).
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tiana Dockery, Kansas, OH, Fr., Richmond, Texas
Dockery recorded her second double-double of the season against No. 19 Iowa State on Wednesday with 14 kills and 15 digs in the Jayhawks' five-set victory. KU is 2-0 in Conference play for the first time since 2005. The Richmond, Texas-native hit .244 and added three blocks to her effort. Over two league matches, she sits ranked in the top 10 in digs and blocks in Big 12 contests.
