Texas, Kansas State, Kansas and Iowa State remain ranked in the AVCA national poll. Texas held its No. 3 ranking from last week, while Iowa State moved up one spot to No. 19. Kansas State sits at No. 20, while Kansas is ranked 22nd.
The Longhorns spoiled KU's unblemished home record, defeating the Jayhawks in five sets in Lawrence on Saturday night. The win guaranteed Texas a share of the 2012 Big 12 crown, which the ‘Horns can win outright with a victory against Texas Tech in Austin on Wednesday.
The Longhorns have won 27 straight league matches and have compiled a win streak of 38 consecutive victories at home in Big 12 play. This is Texas' sixth conference title (2011, ‘07-'09, 1997).
Along with Texas Tech, UT has West Virginia and Iowa State remaining on its conference schedule. Should the Longhorns (13-0) go undefeated in Big 12 play, it will mark the fourth perfect conference record posted by a team in a season (Nebraska, 2000-'02, ‘04). Texas will become the 47th team inBig 12 history to go undefeated in conference play for their sport season and 11th by a UT squad.
The 2-5 spots in the league standings remain tight as Iowa State sits in second with a 9-3 mark. The Cyclones will face Kansas State on Wednesday in a match televised on ESPNU. The Wildcats swept the Cyclones in Manhattan earlier this season. Kansas enters the week in third place with the Wildcats and Sooners sharing an 8-5 record for a fourth-place tie.
Iowa State is currently on a six-match win streak. The Cyclones, along with Texas, are a perfect 6-0 at home this season in league play. Along with K-State, UT is the only Big 12 team yet to visit Ames this season. Iowa State and Texas will meet on the final day of the regular season.
In Big 12-only contests, undefeated home records have been achieved on 18 occasions and at least once a season. In 2005 and 2007, multiple league teams went perfect at home in conference matches.
Kansas, Kansas State and Texas have reached the 20-win mark on the year. This is the first time since 2003 that the Jayhawks have posted 20+ victories in a season while Texas records its ninth straight season with 20 or more wins.
The Big 12 is 93-28 against non-conference competition this year. The Conference is 11-10 against ranked teams outside the Big 12.
Five Big 12 teams are ranked in this week's NCAA RPI top 30 - Texas (3), Kansas (7), Kansas State (15), Oklahoma (27)and Iowa State (28).
Texas ranks third in the nation in blocks per set (3.12) and hitting percentage (.301).
The 2012 NCAA Volleyball Selection Announcement will be on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The Big 12 has sent at least five teams to the postseason event all but one year since 1996, including seven squads in 2011.
