Texas, Kansas State, Kansas and Iowa State remain ranked in the AVCA national poll. Texas held its No. 3 ranking, while Iowa State moved up one spot to No. 18. Kansas sits at No. 20, while Kansas State is No. 25. This is the final poll until Dec. 18 when NCAA postseason play has concluded.
Texas, the 2012 league champion, has won 28 straight league matches and has compiled a win streak of 40 consecutive victories at home in Big 12 play. UT will close out its regular season at Iowa State on Saturday. The Cyclones enter the week with an eight-match win streak while the Longhorns have tallied 17 straight victories. Iowa State is undefeated in Ames this season in league play and 11-1 at home in overall matches.
Should Texas win on Saturday, it would mark the fifth time a league team has gone undefeated in Big 12 play (Nebraska, 2000-'02, ‘04). Texas will become the 49th team in Big 12 history to go undefeated in conference action for their sport season and 11th by a UT squad.
UT also wrapped up its home conference schedule last week with two wins, posting a perfect mark at home against Big 12 opponents (8-0). In Big 12-only contests, undefeated home records have been achieved on 19 occasions and at least once a season. In 2005 and 2007, multiple league teams went perfect at home in conference matches, which would occur for the third time if Iowa State wins on Saturday. This is the seventh time Texas has not lost a match at home in league play.
The Cyclones enter the week in second-place with an 11-3 mark. ISU has compiled a 17-4 record since opening the season 1-3. The Jayhawks are 11-4 on the year and 23-6 overall - their highest win total in the Big 12 era and most victories since 1991 (25). It is also the second-most league wins for KU all-time (13, 2003).
Kansas will host non-conference opponent Saint Louis in Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday. Normally, KU home matches are played at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. Should Kansas host NCAA first/second round action, matches will be held at Allen Fieldhouse.
Kansas, Kansas State and Texas have reached the 20-win mark on the year. This is the first time since 2003 that the Jayhawks have posted 20+ victories in a season while Texas records its ninth straight season with 20 or more wins.
The Big 12 is 93-28 against non-conference competition this year. The Conference is 11-10 against ranked teams outside the Big 12. Baylor (SMU) and Kansas (Saint Louis) have two regular season matches remaining against non-league teams.
Five Big 12 teams are ranked in this week's NCAA RPI top 30 - Texas (3), Kansas (6), Kansas State (17), Iowa State (23) and Oklahoma (30).
Texas ranks second in the nation in hitting percentage (.311) and third in the nation in blocks per set (3.17). UT is one of nine teams nationally with three or less losses.
The 2012 NCAA Volleyball Selection Announcement will be on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The Big 12 has sent at least five teams to the postseason event all but one year since 1996, including seven squads in 2011. Overall, the Big 12 has tallied 97 total appearances with a 155-95 record.
