Haley Eckerman (Texas), Rachel Brummitt (Texas Tech) and Chiaka Ogbogu (Texas) have garnered Big 12 volleyball weekly awards for matches played Nov. 18-24.

Eckerman claims her second Offensive Player of the Week award this season and 14th career Big 12 weekly recognition (ninth Offensive). Her 14 awards rank third in the conference in overall career weekly honors.

Brummitt earned her third career Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. The junior also claimed the honor in back-to-back weeks to open the 2012 season.

Ogbogu’s Rookie of the Week distinction is her third this season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Haley Eckerman, Texas, Jr., OH, Waterloo, Iowa/East
Eckerman led the league last week with 6.17 kills per set and 6.42 points per set, while ranking second with a hitting percentage of .484. Her 27 kills against West Virginia on Wednesday were one shy of the Texas record for a three-game set, but were a Big 12 season-high in all matches for the year. The junior hit .634 in the match with just one error in 41 attempts. On Saturday against K-State, she notched 10 kills for a weekly total of 37 and a combined .484 two-match hitting percentage. The Longhorns claimed their third straight league title with the sweep of the Wildcats, improving to 14-0 in league play and 21-2 overall.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Brummitt, Texas Tech, Jr., L, Plano, Texas/Radford
Brummitt led all conference players last week with a 7.00 digs per set, an average that was boosted by her Texas Tech and Big 12 record 36 digs last Wednesday against Oklahoma. The performance snapped the conference’s long-standing four set digs record of 35, set by Texas A&M’s Erin Gibson on Sept. 23, 2000, against Colorado. Brummitt, who has already broken her own Tech single-season digs mark, also put herself in the Tech almanac once again, taking over Ann Romjue’s previous four-set record of 33 that was set on Nov. 17, 2002, against Texas A&M. It was the second 30-dig performance in Brummitt’s career, and the Plano, Texas, native followed the performance by totaling 13 digs last Saturday at No. 22 Kansas. She now has 588 digs this season, averaging 5.16 per set which currently ranks second in the Big 12 and among the top 25 in the country. Brummitt also added five assists and a service ace in the two matches this past week against two of the Big 12’s top four teams in the conference standings.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Chiaka Ogbogu, Texas, Fr., MB, Coppell, Texas/Coppell
Ogobgu led all league freshmen last week with a hitting percentage of .450 (10-1-20). Her 12 blocks, an average of 2.00 per set, led all league players. She totaled seven in UT’s match against West Virginia on Wednesday before adding five more on Saturday versus K-State. Ogbogu leads the league in hitting percentage in Big 12 matches this season with a .417 mark.
