Texas, Kansas Earn AVCA Preseason Rankings
August 11, 2014

Four Big 12 volleyball teams are ranked or receiving votes in the 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll. Texas leads all teams with the No. 2 national spot, while Kansas is ranked 22nd and Oklahoma and Iowa State are receiving votes. The Longhorns received 11 first-place votes.

The Longhorns have been ranked in the preseason top 5 every year since 2007. Kansas is making just its second preseason poll appearance as a member of the league. The Jayhawks were ranked 20th to open the season in 2013. This marks the first time since 2007 that Iowa State has not been ranked in the top 25.

The Big 12 has totaled 52 preseason top 25 selections since 1996 and 69 total top 25 finishes.

Texas is the unanimous choice as the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 title this season, with the Jayhawks slated for a second-place finish and the Cyclones selected to finish third.

The 2014 Big 12 volleyball season starts on Friday, Aug. 29, with conference play beginning on Wednesday, September 24.
