Texas advanced to the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals for the fifth consecutive season on Friday. The Longhorns will face 16th-seeded Purdue at 8 p.m. CT Saturday on ESPNU.
Purdue earned its regional final berth by upsetting top-seeded Florida, 3-0.
The eighth-seeded Longhorns (26-5) edged ninth-seeded Illinois (24-9) by a 3-2 (19-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-14, 15-11) margin Friday evening in the round of 16. Texas extended its winning streak to 18 matches with the victory.
Rachael Adams and Juliann Faucette led UT with 19 kills apiece, while Michelle Kocher dished out 46 assists. Adams' .438 hitting performance against Illinois improved her career postseason attack mark to .492, the top career postseason hitter in UT history. The Cincinnati, Ohio-native 19-kill outing was also a career-best.
Jerritt Elliott, the Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year, guided his squad to a national runner-up finish a year ago. UT finished in second-place with an 18-2 Big 12 record in 2010.
Big 12 champion Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma were eliminated from the NCAA Championship field on Friday.
