Ninth-seeded Texas (27-5) has earned its seventh trip overall and third straight to the NCAA Championship semifinal round. The Longhorns claimed the Austin Regional title with a 3-1 (18-25, 25-16, 25-15, 27-25) victory over 16th-seeded Purdue at Gregory Gym on Saturday.
The Big 12 has had at least one Final Four representative in five of the last six seasons (Nebraska: 2005, '06, '08; Texas: 2008, '09, '10).
UT will face No. 4 seed Penn State (30-5) on Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The contest, a rematch of last year's national final, will be televised at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com. The Nittany Lions are the defending three-time national champions, after rallying to claim a five-set match against UT in '09.
Big 12 Player of the Year Juliann Faucette led Texas with 20 kills while Rachael Adams added 13 kills before a sellout crowd of 4,152. Michelle Kocher also contributed a match-leading 54 assists in the winning effort for UT.
Texas reaches the NCAA Final Four for the third time in Jerritt Elliott's 10-year tenure. Elliott was named the league's co-coach of the year in addition to being tabbed AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year. The Longhorns were competing in their fifth consecutive NCAA regional final and their 16th all-time.
UT carries a 19-match winning streak into the national semifinal.
