Iowa State and Texas remain ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll. Texas moved up four spots to No. 5, while Iowa State ranks 14th. Texas A&M and Kansas State are receiving votes. The Aggies have received votes for the past 12 weeks, while the Wildcats have for the past eight.
With just one week remaining in the regular season, Texas holds the top spot in the Big 12 standings. The Longhorns can clinch a share of the 2011 title with a win on Wednesday. Should they win out, the Horns will be outright champions. If Iowa State wins out and Texas loses either Wednesday or Saturday, the two teams will be co-champions. UT has won four conference championships (1997, 2007, ‘08, ‘09), including outright titles in 1997 and 2009.
Texas A&M, owners of a 10-1 home record this season, will host Texas on Wednesday. Last season, the Aggies swept the then-No. 8 Longhorns at Reed Arena. On Saturday, TAMU faces the leagues other ranked opponent in Iowa State
For the third-straight year, five Big 12 teams have recorded 20 or more overall wins. It is the 11th season that at least five league squads have had 20-plus win seasons.
Only Texas and Iowa State have one loss in conference play on the road. Since 1996, a team has finished with one or no road losses in conference play 15 times. Texas has recorded four such occasions. ISU's best road conference record is an 8-2 mark in 2009.
The NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Selection Announcement will be on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 5 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The Big 12 has sent at least five teams to postseason play all but one year since 1996. Eight of the league's nine current squads have participated in NCAA postseason play over the past four years with six different league teams making an appearance over the past two seasons.
UT owns the third-longest active home winning streak in the nation having won 27-straight contests in Austin. Only Cincinnati (48) and Nebraska (36) have longer active win streaks at home.
The Big 12 is one of three conferences with five or more teams ranked in the top 30 for RPI. The league's five teams is tied for second-most. The Cyclones are second in the nation in RPI, behind Illinois. Texas ranks fourth, Texas A&M 19th and Kansas State 26th. Oklahoma and Missouri are ranked 30th and 32nd, respectively. Baylor (42), Kansas (44) and Texas Tech (87) round out the remaining league schools. ISU's No. 2 RPI ranking is the highest in program history. The squad was 6th in 2009.
