Eckerman and Elliott were named Central Region Freshman and Coach of the Year, respectively. The pair also earned the same honors through the Conference office at the end of the 2011 regular season.
Eckerman is the only freshman in the Big 12 in the top 10 for points this season, finishing with 4.23 (sixth) in Big 12 play and averaging 4.00 (sixth) in overall matches. She also finished in the top 10 in kills with 3.76 (fifth) and service aces with 0.26 (fourth) in league matches. Eckerman has been honored as the Big 12 Rookie of the Week five times and earned Player of the Week on two occasions for a total of seven Conference weekly awards this year. She ended the regular season with three-straight rookie honors. She has double-digit kills in her past 10 matches, including a team-high 16 and 12 in UT's two postseason contests. The Waterloo, Iowa-native has a total of 22 matches with 10 or more kills, including three contests with 20 or more.
In his 11th season as head coach of the Longhorns, Elliott led Texas to its sixth consecutive NCAA regional appearance. The Horns ended the regular season ranked fifth in the country, and for their strong performance during the season, they were awarded the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament. For the second-straight season, Elliott was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year, his fourth overall (2011, ‘10, ‘07, ‘04). UT claimed its fifth conference crown in 2011, finishing the regular season with a 22-4 record that included a 15-1 mark in Big 12 play. Texas owns the nation's longest active home winning streak, having won 30-straight matches in Austin. He won the AVCA Division I Pacific Region Coach of the Year for the first time in 2000 while at the University of Southern California. This is his fourth Division I Central Region Coach of the Year honor since joining Texas (2011, ‘10, ‘07, ‘04).
Iowa State and Texas each placed a trio of student-athletes on the All-Region Team. Rachael Adams, Eckerman and Bailey Webster are UT's three honorees. Adams was also recognized in 2010, while Webster was named the Big 12's Player of the Year. For the Cyclones, Jamie Straube earns her second honor and is joined by Allison Landwehr and Carly Jenson.
Oklahoma and Texas A&M picked up a pair of honorees, while Kansas State and Missouri each had a representative. In addition, five student-athletes earned honorable mention selections.
