Iowa State and Texas were eliminated from the 2011 NCAA Volleyball Championship Saturday night, losing in the Regional Finals. The Longhorns dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 9 national seed UCLA in the Lexington Regional, while the Cyclones fell, 3-2, to No. 12 national seed Florida State in the Minneapolis Regional.

The Big 12 finishes the 2011 postseason with a 9-7 record and was one of two conferences to advance more than one team to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Texas ended its season at 25-5, making its sixth-straight Regional Finals appearance. On Saturday, UT received a career performance from senior All-America middle blocker Rachael Adams, but came up short with the 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 21-25 loss.

Adams equaled a career-high with her 19 kills, hit a team-best .412 and added five total blocks in her final match in burnt orange. Sophomore outside hitter Bailey Webster joined her in double figures with 14 kills on .367 hitting and national freshman of the year candidate Haley Eckerman added 10 kills. Adams ended her Texas career with 20 career postseason matches played to tie the all-time UT record.

Iowa State closes the season with its second trip to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight round in four years and its six-straight trip to postseason. The squad became just the second in program history to notch 25 wins in a season and tied a program record of five wins over top 25 teams.

ISU freshman Victoria Hurtt scored a career-high 24 kills but could not lift the Cyclones (25-6) past the Florida State Seminoles (25-6) in five back-and-forth sets as the Cyclones were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by the scores of 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 11-15. Hurtt and teammates Carly Jenson and Kristen Hahn were named to the all-region tournament team.

It was a career night for many Cyclones as middle blocker Tenisha Matlock notched a career-best 15 kills on .414 hitting and picking up three block assists. Setter Alison Landwehr added a career-high 66 assists and Jenson contributed 14 kills and a career-high 28 digs for her 17th double-double of the season. Landwehr's 66 assists is the most by a Cyclone since the 2008 season.

Florida State held the Cyclones to .204 hitting on with 16 total blocks, the second-most blocks by an Iowa State opponent this season. Sareea Freeman had 10 total blocks (two solo, eight assists). Iowa State also racked up a season-high 31 errors in the match. On the defensive side of the ball, Iowa State struggled to stop FSU senior Jekaterin Stepanova who finished with 20 kills and hit .378 in the match.

For the first time since 2005, seven Big 12 volleyball squads earned spots in the 2011 NCAA Championship field. In addition, six Big 12 squads notched 20-win seasons for the first time since 1997 when seven league teams won 20 or more matches.
