The Defensive Player of the Week has been claimed in back-to-back weeks by the same student-athlete on six other occasions. Brummitt is the first TTU player to earn the honor two weeks in a row.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Yvonne Igodan, TCU, MB, Jr., Houston, Texas
Igodan was named the MVP of last weekend's TCU Nike Invitational after tallying 55 kills (an average of 5.50 per set) on 96 total attacks, while logging just 10 errors. She had a .469 attack percentage for the weekend and leads the Big 12 with a .458 hitting percentage. Her four straight kills to end the match against Army clinched the tournament title for TCU and led them to a 3-0 weekend along with a fifth straight win. Her 24 kills against Army were a career high. Defensively, Igodan had nine blocks on the weekend, including one solo.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Brummitt, Texas Tech, L, So., Plano, Texas/Radford
Brummitt led Texas Tech to a 3-0 showing in its own Lonestar Showdown last weekend. The Plano, Texas-native totaled 60 digs over three matches while adding four aces to help the Red Raiders improve to 7-0 overall, the program's best start since winning eight straight to open the 2003 season. Brummitt broke the Texas Tech single-match record for most digs in a three-set match in its 3-0 sweep of San Jose State as she scooped up 27 balls in the contest, snapping a 21-year-old record of 24 that was set in 1990. Brummitt finished with 21 digs in Tech's 3-1 victory in the tournament finale against Northwestern State which was her third 20-dig performance this season. Entering the week, the sophomore is currently second in the Conference in digs per set (4.92), but leads in overall digs with 128. She is also fourth in service aces per set (0.46) after totaling four last weekend, giving her 12 for the season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Emily Ruetter, Texas Tech, S, Fr., Burlington, Ontario, Canada
Ruetter maintained a balanced offense during TTU's Lonestar Showdown last weekend with 111 assists to go along with 21 digs and seven blocks. The Canadian native moved up to sixth on the Big 12 charts in assists per set, averaging 9.69 per frame, second-most among freshmen setters in the Conference. On top of her performance offensively, Ruetter also posted her third double-double of the season in Tech's 3-0 sweep of San Jose State as she totaled 10 digs from the back row. She also added five blocks to go along with her 38 assists in the finale against Northwestern State, one off her season high.
