Texas, Kansas State, Kansas and Iowa State remain ranked in the AVCA national poll. The Longhorns (No. 8) and Cyclones (No. 22) moved up one spot, while Kansas State (No. 14) and Kansas (No. 21) held the same spots from last week. For the sixth straight week, the Sooners are receiving votes.
Eight league matches are on tap this week as the conference season hits the halfway point. Wednesday features three telecasted contests, two of which pit the four ranked teams against one another. Kansas hosts K-State (on Metro Sports) while Iowa State travels to Texas for matchup on FSN. Oklahoma's visit to Texas Tech will be featured on Fox College Sports.
Texas remains atop the Big 12 standings with a 7-0 mark, while Kansas is in second with a 5-1 record. The Jayhawks went 1-1 on the road last week and will put their 10-0 home record on the line with two matches in Lawrence this week. Three teams sit in a tie for third with 4-2 league marks.
The Jayhawks have matches their highest win total in the last seven seasons (17, 2010) with their win at Oklahoma last Wednesday.
Texas has 37 straight conference home wins and 21 straight conference wins - both the longest active streaks in the Conference. UT has not lost a Big 12 match since Sept. 28 of last season when it dropped a 3-2 decision to then-ranked No. 25 Oklahoma. Texas' last home conference loss also came from Oklahoma when the Sooners defeated UT on Oct. 29, 2008.
With a win over WVU on Wednesday, Iowa State secured its 700th victory in program history.
Kansas State's .889 winning percentage is the sixth-best in the nation. The Wildcats are one of 12 teams with two or fewer losses on the year.
Texas (4), Kansas State (9), Kansas (13) and Oklahoma (19) are ranked in the top 20 of the latest NCAA RPI report. The Big 12 finished 2011 ranked first in NCAA RPI.
The Big 12 is 92-28 against non-conference competition this year. The Conference is 11-10 against ranked teams outside the Big 12.
Haley Eckerman (Texas), the league's kills and points leader, was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in the last four weeks. The sophomore has the third-most Big 12 volleyball career weekly honors, trailing Destinee Hooker (Texas, 13) and Ashley Mass (Iowa State, 15).
Defensive Player of the Week Brianne Riley established a Big 12 record for most digs in a five-set match with 43 over Oklahoma on Wednesday. The previous single-season record belonged to Ashley Mass (Iowa State) who totaled 42 against Baylor in October 2009.
