McLaurin, Hahn & Anderson Earn First Set of 2013 Weekly Awards

Sallie McLaurin (Oklahoma), Kristen Hahn (Iowa State) and Jordan Anderson (West Virginia) have been named Big 12 volleyball weekly award winners for matches played from Aug. 30-Sept. 1. 

McLaurin is the Offensive Player of the Week recipient and has now totaled seven career weekly honors. This is McLaurin’s second career Offensive Player of the Week distinction.

Hahn earns her 13th Defensive Player of the Week award. The Iowa State libero totaled eight in 2012. She is now tied with Destinee Hooker (Texas, 2006-09) for the second-most career awards in Big 12 history.

Anderson earned the Rookie of the Week honor.

McLaurin led the Sooners to a 3-0 weekend and was named Tournament MVP of the Holiday Inn West Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan. She hit .456 and totaled 41 kills for a 4.10 average, while also recording a team high 11 blocks (1.10 blocks per set) to go with eight digs and four assists. Her high for the weekend was 17 kills in the opener against Milwaukee on Friday as she hit .517. The senior Sooner hit .400 or better in all three matches. After the opening weekend of play, she is second in the Big 12 in hitting percentage and tied for fourth in kills.

Kristen Hahn, Iowa State, Sr., L, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy
The two-time All-American and two-time Big 12 Libero of the Year was outstanding for the Cyclones during the UND Classic, earning All-Tournament honors. Hahn led the Cyclones with 5.90 digs per set. She posted a pair of 23-dig matches in the sweep of South Dakota State and ISU’s four-set win over Texas A&M. She also contributed six assists and two aces during the week. Hahn also received 53 serves, committing only one error for a 98.1 percent receiving rate.

Jordan Anderson, West Virginia, Fr., OH, Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound
Anderson helped lead West Virginia to a 3-0 weekend and a Blue/Gold Invitational title, while being named to the Blue/Gold Invitational All-Tournament Team. The freshman totaled 43 kills and 35 digs in the three matches, while recording a double-double in each of her first three matches as a Mountaineer. The Flower Mound, Texas-native had an impressive first career match tallying 17 kills and 13 digs in a win over Eastern Illinois. She posted 13 kills and 12 digs against Loyola-Chicago followed by 13 kills and 10 digs against Toledo. Anderson leads the Mountaineers in kills and is second on the team in digs.
