Patrick McGregor (Texas) and Cierra White (Texas Tech) have been selected as the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for competition March 22-24. It is the first weekly award for both student-athletes.
Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Male Athlete of the Week
Patrick McGregor, Texas, Sr., Hoover, Ala./Kentucky
In the season opener for the Longhorns, McGregor posted a personal-best time of 1:49.57 in winning the 800 meters at the Texas State Elite meet. That time was more than one second ahead of second-place Tyron Jackson of Texas State and ranks No. 1 in the nation in the early part of the outdoor season. McGregor had one of four victories for the Longhorns in the meet.
Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week
Cierra White, Texas Tech, So., Philadelphia, Pa.
White swept both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash last weekend at the annual UTEP Springtime Invitational, leaping to No. 1 nationally in the 100 meters with a time of 11.09, and No. 2 in the 200 meters with a time of 22.91. White’s time of 11.09 in the 100-meter marks a new school record. She is the only Big 12 female athlete ranked in the top-five of both events.
The 2013 Indoor All-American as a member of the Texas Tech 4x400 relay team, White is undefeated this year in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters heading into the Texas Relays this weekend in Austin.
