• Five Big 12 teams are ranked or receiving votes entering the week. Oklahoma checks in as high as No. 13 (Collegiate Baseball). OSU sits at No. 19 in the USA Today Coaches’ poll and in the NCBWA rankings. K-State is ranked 28th by the NCBWA and receiving votes in two of the other three polls, while Kansas and West Virginia are also receiving votes.

• Oklahoma, K-State and West Virginia sit in a three-way tie atop the Big 12 standings with 11-7 records. All three teams are in action this week with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State slated for the Bedlam series and Kansas and K-State facing off in Lawrence for the Sunflower Showdown. TCU travels to Charleston, W. Va., to take on the Mountaineers. Baylor, Texas and Texas Tech are off from conference play this weekend.

• A .061 percentage points between first place and fifth place in the standings this week. The closest margin between first and fifth in the final standings based on winning percentage was .092 points in 2009. That year was also the only time the Big 12 regular-season champion finished with a winning percentage below .700.

• The Mountaineers, picked to finish last in the Big 12 coaches’ preseason poll, are coming off a 2-1 series win over No. 10 Oklahoma. It is the third consecutive Big 12 series won by West Virginia scored 21 runs in the series against OU.

• The Jayhawks claimed their first-ever sweep over Baylor last weekend as part of a 5-0 week. KU had three walk-off wins last week, including the final two contests against the Bears. Each of the games in the KU-BU series were decided by one run. The sweep marked the fifth in the Big 12 this season (no team has more than one conference sweep).

• Also picking up series wins last week were K-State and Oklahoma State. The Wildcats’ series win against Texas marked just the third-ever series win in Austin (1997 and 2009).

• Matt Frazer (West Virginia), Mark Robinette (Oklahoma State) and Jordan Piché (Kansas) have garnered Big 12 baseball weekly awards for games played April 29-May 5. While the newcomer award is only in its third season (established in 2011), Piché is the first player to win three weekly recognitions in that category with only four other players winning on multiple occasions.

• Matt Oberste (Oklahoma), Jason Hursh (Oklahoma State) and Trey Masek (Texas Tech) join Jared King (K-State), Jonathan Gray (Oklahoma) and Corey Knebel (Texas) on the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list.

• Oberte and K-State’s Austin Fisher enter the week with the league’s longest active hitting streaks at 14 games. Mark Payton (Texas) has reached base in 35 straight games to lead the league.

• The 2013 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship is two weeks away and will be held at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, May 22-26.
