After one week of conference play, Texas and West Virginia share the top spot in the league standings at 2-0-0. The Longhorns and Mountaineers will face off on Friday in Morgantown.
The WVU trio of Kate Schwindel, Sara Keane and Kadeisha Buchanan claimed conference player of the week honors. The Mountaineers became the first team to sweep the weekly awards since Missouri in 2009.
Texas started conference play 2-0 for the second consecutive season under coach Angela Kelly after not having accomplished that feat since 2006.
Texas Tech’s defense continued its streak of not allowing a goal in the first 45 minutes. The Red Raiders have now shutout all 12 of its opponents this season in the opening half.
Defensive play continues to be strong in the Big 12. Every team’s goal against average is 1.91 or less. Texas Tech (0.41), Baylor (0.44) and Texas (0.74) are averaging less than one goal against.
