Roland, Jeffcoat and Fera Selected Big 12 Football Players of the Week
October 28, 2013

Desmond Roland (Oklahoma State), Jackson Jeffcoat (Texas) and Anthony Fera (Texas) were named Big 12 Football Players of the Week by a panel of media that cover the Conference. Jeffcoat (defense) was honored for the second time this season while Roland (offense) and Fera (special teams) picked up their first award.

Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week
Desmond Roland, Oklahoma State, RB, Jr, Dallas, Texas
Making the first start of his career, Desmond Roland rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries to lead Oklahoma State to a 58-27 win at Iowa State. Roland’s 219 rushing yards and four touchdowns both represent the top marks for any Big 12 player in a game this year. His rushing yards were the most for an Oklahoma State back in a road game against a Big 12 opponent since Vernand Morency rushed for 269 yards at Kansas in 2003. It also marked the third-most of any player in the country last week.

Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Jackson Jeffcoat, Texas, DE, Sr, Plano, Texas
Jackson Jeffcoat registered one sack, 2.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, three QB pressures and four tackles (three solo) in Texas’ 30-7 win at TCU. The Longhorns held TCU to 45 yards on 24 rushes and 246 yards of total offense. Jeffcoat provided the pressure on a first quarter forced fumble that the Horns recovered at the TCU three-yard line and turned into a quick touchdown and 7-0 lead that they never relinquished. TCU's seven points were the fewest by the Frogs since October of 2006 and marked the only time they penetrated the UT red zone.

Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week
Anthony Fera, K/P, Sr, Cypress, Texas
Anthony Fera connected on a 43-yard field goal in the first quarter before the weather delay, a 37 and 36 yarder after it and all three of his extra points to generate 12 of the Horns’ points in a 30-7 win at TCU. He also punted seven times for a 40-yard average. The Frogs returned just one of his seven punts and that went for –3 yards. He has hit 11-of-12 field goals this season.
