Story line
Based on the school's location and past nonconference games, TCU coach Jeff Mittie had a pretty good idea of what his team was in for during its first season in the Big 12 Conference. But slugging through an 18-game schedule with an inexperienced team might have been tougher than what was expected. The Horned Frogs return four starters including outstanding perimeter players in Zahna Medley and Natalie Ventress. If newcomers Klara Bradshaw and Carol Willie can provide a boost in the front court, TCU should move up in the standings and possibly contend for a post-season bid.

Coach: Jeff Mittie, 285-161 in 14 seasons at TCU; 436-220 overall in 21 seasons.
Last season: 9-21 overall, 2-16 in Big 12, 10th.
NCAA Tournament: Did not participate.

Top players
Sophomore guard/forward Veja Hamilton; senior center Latricia Lovings; sophomore guard Zahna Medley; junior guard Natalie Ventress; freshman center Klara Bradshaw, freshman center Carol Willie.

Coach Mittie says
"I think the league is wide open but obviously Baylor is still very talented, they just need to plug some new pieces in. I think Oklahoma has some great talent returning. There are a lot of veteran coaches who have been through the cycle of graduating talented players. I think this year's race will be interesting and it's probably wide open."

Notable
Eight of TCU's 16 Big 12 losses came by 10 or fewer points and during the last two weeks of the regular season the Horned Frogs defeated Oklahoma State and Iowa State – two teams that made the NCAA Tournament. … In their 16 Big 12 losses, the Frogs made just 33 percent of their shots.  … After making eight of nine NCAA Tournament appearances between 2001 and 2010, the Frogs have missed the last three NCAAs. … Sophomore Zahna Medley was sixth in the Big 12 in assists and third in 3-point field goals. … Senior Latricia Lovings averaged nine rebounds a game, good for seventh in the Conference. … Alexia Standish, a two-year starter at Texas A&M, transferred to TCU in the off-season.
