April 08, 2014

Michel Dornbusch (Baylor), Jordaan Sanford (Baylor) and Breaunna Addison (Texas) have been named Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week, as selected by league officials, for matches from April 1 - 8. This is the first weekly honor for all three student-athletes.

Big 12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Michel Dornbusch, Baylor, Jr., Wilhelmshaven, Germany
Dornbusch went a perfect 4-0 (two singles wins and two doubles victories) in helping Baylor win two matches over ranked foes last week. In a 4-0 victory against 25th-ranked South Florida, Dornbusch and partner Diego Galeano provided the point-clinching win in doubles with an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot. In singles against the Bulls, Dornbusch cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory and was the first BU player to finish, giving the Bears a commanding 2-0 lead. On Saturday in Baylor’s first Big 12 match, Dornbusch and Galeano again provided the clinching point in doubles with an 8-2 victory at the No. 3 spot. In singles action vs. the Red Raiders, Dornbusch again got a straight set win, 6-3, 6-3, to extend the Baylor lead to 3-0. Overall, Dornbusch is 7-5 in dual-match play and 9-1 in doubles play with three different partners.

Big 12 Women's Tennis Players of the Week
Jordaan Sanford, Baylor, Sr., Diamond Bar, Calif.
The Diamond Bar, Calif., native leads the Bears with an 18-2 record in dual matches and has not lost a match since Feb. 15. The senior took down Sofiko Kadzhaya of TCU in straight sets at the No. 3 spot. She ended the weekend only giving up two games against Kansas State’s Maria Panaite. The win helped her team improve to a 17-6 record overall.

Breaunna Addison, Texas, So., Boca Raton, Fla.
Addison has won her last six matches, all in conference play. Her two wins over the weekend helped Texas to wins at K-State and Kansas.  Addison has won 10 of her last 11 matches, is 6-0 in league play and hasn’t dropped a contest since March 8.  Addison’s convincing win Saturday over K-State’s Petra Niedermayerova in Manhattan marked her ninth win over a ranked opponent in dual-match play.  The Florida native has won her last nine singles sets, all in league play at the No. 1 spot.  Addison and senior Elizabeth Begley hold a 4-1 record at No. 1 doubles in league play. Addison boasts a 22-9 overall singles record and a 14-4 mark in dual matches, all at No. 1 singles.
