Six From Big 12 Recognized by Associated Press
March 31, 2014
Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins and Iowa State senior Melvin Ejim have been named to the Associated Press All-America Second Team, it was announced. Four other Big 12 student-athletes picked up honorable mention status.

Ejim led the Cyclones averaging 17.8 points and was named Big 12 Player of the Year. The forward also averaged 8.4 rebounds. Ejim is the only player in a BCS conference averaging at least 17 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 50 percent from the field and 34 percent from behind the arc.

Wiggins set the Kansas freshman single-season scoring record with 597 points in 2013-14. On the defensive end, Wiggins led Kansas in steals with 41 and came in second to Joel Embiid, KU's new shot-blocking leader, on the team with 34 blocked shots. The Big 12 Freshman of the Year combo guard averaged 17.1 points and pulled down 5.9 rebounds a night.

Kansas’ Joel Embiid, Iowa State’s DeAndre Kane, Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart and West Virginia’s Juwan Staten all received honorable mention recognition.
