Preseason Event Schedules Announced

As is the case each year, Big 12 men’s basketball teams are prominently featured in multi-team events that are played near the start of the season. The brackets and pairings for several of those events in 2014 have been announced.

Iowa State will play Alabama in the semifinals of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic on Monday, Nov. 24 at 8:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2. Arizona State and Maryland will meet in the other matchup. The championship game will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU following the consolation game, which will be shown on ESPN3.

Kansas will play Rhode Island on Thanksgiving Day to open up bracket play of the 2014 Orlando Classic at HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Playing in its first Orlando Classic, the Kansas-Rhode Island contest will be at 1 p.m. CT on ESPN. The winner will face either Santa Clara or Tennessee in the next round. Teams on the other side of the bracket include Georgia Tech, Marquette, Michigan State and Rider. In a non-bracketed games that is also part of the event, Kansas will host Rider at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, Nov. 24.

Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber will face a familiar foe to open the EA Sports Maui Invitational, as the Wildcats will play Purdue on Monday, Nov. 24 at 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2. The matchup was one of four first-round games announced by tournament organizers in a field which also includes Arizona, BYU, Chaminade, Missouri, Pittsburgh and San Diego State. All games will be played from Nov. 24-26 at the Lahaina Civic Center in Lahaina, Hawai’i. In addition to the eight Championship Round programs, K-State will host UMKC in a regional game slated for Bramlage Coliseum on Monday, Nov. 17.

Oklahoma will open the 2014 Battle 4 Atlantis by playing UCLA on Wednesday, Nov. 26, on Paradise Island near Nassau, Bahamas. The OU-UCLA matchup will start at 1:30 p.m. CT at the Imperial Arena inside the Atlantis resort and be televised by ESPN2. The winner of the contest will play the winner of the Butler-North Carolina matchup. The other side of the bracket has Florida, Georgetown, UAB and Wisconsin. Overall, the eight Battle 4 Atlantis teams have combined for 200 NCAA Tournament appearances, 55 Final Four showings and 20 national championships.

Texas and Iowa will meet in the first semifinal of the 2014 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. The game is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. CT and the will be televised by ESPN2. California and Syracuse will face off in the second semifinal, with the championship and consolations games slated for Friday, Nov. 21. All four games during the championship rounds are scheduled to be played at historic Madison Square Garden. The complete bracket, including UT’s two opponents in the Regional Round games in Austin on Nov. 14 and 16, plus additional television information will be announced at a later date.

West Virginia will travel to the 2014 Puerto Rico Tipoff and open play against George Mason on Thursday, Nov. 20. The winner of that contest will face either Boston College or New Mexico in the next round. The Mountaineers are playing in the event for the second time in school history (2010). WVU will also host a non-bracketed game in the event when the College of Charleston comes to Morgantown on Saturday, Nov. 29.
