Denmon, Jackson Capture Men's Basketball Honors
February 06, 2012
Senior Marcus Denmon (Missouri) and junior Pierre Jackson (Baylor) have been named Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games of Jan. 30 - Feb. 6 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference. It is the third career player accolade for Denmon after he won twice last year, while Jackson earns top rookie recognition for the second time this season.

Marcus Denmon, Missouri, Sr., G, 6-3, 185, Kansas City, Mo./Hogan Prep
Denmon averaged 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds to lead Missouri to wins at Texas (67-66) and against No. 8 Kansas (74-71). His big game came against the Jayhawks, as he broke out of a shooting slump to score 29 points. He made 10-of-16 shots from the field, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range. The senior scored nine consecutive points in a span of 1:12 with less than two minutes remaining to rally the Tigers from down eight points to up one with just under a minute left in the contest. The 29-point effort was the second-highest of his career and his 24th career 20-point outing. On the week, Denmon shot 46.4 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc, while making 3-of-5 free throws. He also added two assists and two steals.

Pierre Jackson, Baylor, Jr., G, 5-10, 180, Las Vegas, Nev./Desert Pines/College of Southern Idaho

Jackson captures rookie honors for the second time in four weeks after Baylor posted road wins at Texas A&M (63-60) and Oklahoma State (64-60). The junior guard recorded 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game as the Bears improved to 10-1 at road and neutral sites this season. He started with 14 points at A&M, including the eventual game-winning 3-pointer with 17 seconds remaining before hitting two free throws to seal the victory. He finished with 14 points and four assists at OSU to help BU to its first victory in Stillwater since February 2003. Jackson has made at least two 3-pointers in nine straight games and ranks second on the team in scoring with a 14.7-point average. He leads Baylor in assists (5.9), steals (1.8) and 3-point field goal percentage (.473) on the year.
