A native of Minneapolis, Minn., White recorded one of the best seasons in ISU basketball history in his first and only collegiate campaign in 2011-12. An All-America Honorable Mention pick, he ranked in the top 100 nationally in rebounding (34th, 9.3), field goal percentage (36th, 53.4) and assists (57th, 5.0). He also led the Cyclones in scoring (13.4), steals (1.1) and blocks (0.9).
White, who announced on March 21 he will enter his name into the NBA Draft, was second in the Big 12 in double-doubles with 11. This past year, the point-forward also helped the Cyclones earn their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2005. He averaged 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in two NCAA Championship games.
White joins former Cyclone All-American Jamaal Tinsley as winners of the national newcomer of the year award. Tinsley received the honor in 2000.
