Four Menís Basketball Standouts Named To Academic All-District Teams

The 2013‐14 Capital One Academic All‐District ® Men’s Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation’s top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Four Big 12 men’s basketball players were honored.

West Virginia junior Kevin Noreen was named to the All-District 2 squad.  A sport management major with a 3.7 GPA, Noreen has played in all 21 games for the Mountaineers, starting 19 of those contests. He is averaging 2.0 points and 2.7 rebounds with a season-high 13 points and eight rebounds in the win over Loyola.

Iowa State senior forward Melvin Ejim was chosen for the All-District 6 team.  Ejim, who was named Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012-13, leads the Big 12 in scoring with 17.9 points per game and ranks 10th in rebounding with 7.3 boards per contest. 

Junior Christien Sager and sophomore Phil Forte of Oklahoma State were selected for the Academic All-District 7 team. Sager has maintained a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in electrical engineer at OSU. He has played in 16 games this season for the Cowboys and 43 games in his career.  Forte has maintained a 3.41 GPA in marketing at Oklahoma State. He averages 22.3 minutes off the bench for the Cowboys and has scored 13 points per game this season. He leads the Big 12 in free throw percentage (91.8 percent), 3-point field-goal percentage (49.6 percent) and 3-point field-goals made per game (3.0).

Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All‐America teams programs since 2011.  First‐team Academic All‐District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America® Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.

To be eligible for Academic All‐America® consideration, a student‐athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All‐ America honors on more than 20,000 student‐athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
