Jefferson & Kane Earn Menís Basketball Weekly Accolades

After leading each of their teams to two wins last week, seniors Cory Jefferson (Baylor) and DeAndre Kane (Iowa State) have been named the latest Big 12 Men’s Basketball weekly award winners.  Jefferson is honored for the second time in 2013-14, while Kane earns his fifth accolade overall (two player, three rookie) this season.

Jefferson averaged 20.0 points and 12.5 rebounds as Baylor extended its win streak to four games with victories over Oklahoma State and at West Virginia.  The senior forward had double-doubles in both contests, starting with 25 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in 40 minutes versus the Cowboys.  He then followed with 15 points, 12 boards and two rejections in Morgantown.  Jefferson made 13-of-25 (.520) shots on the week, converting 12-of-16 (.750) from the free throw line.  He is tied for the Big 12 lead with 10 double-doubles this year and needs four points to reach the 1,000-point plateau for his career.

Kane averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists as Iowa State collected wins against Texas and TCU.  The senior guard opened the week by hitting 7-of-13 shots to finish with 22 points versus the Longhorns.  He then added 20 points, six boards and five assists in the Cyclones’ win in Fort Worth.  Kane shot 55.6 percent for the week en route to his ninth and 10th 20-point outings of the year.  He has dished out at least five assists 17 times and is one of just two players nationally averaging at least 16 points, six rebounds and five assists.
