Langford, Musgrave & Nurdin Tabbed Big 12 Baseball Weekly Award Winners
April 29, 2013

Lawton Langford (Baylor), Harrison Musgrave (West Virginia) and Tyler Nurdin (Oklahoma State) are Big 12 baseball weekly award winners for games played April 22-29.

Musgrave earns the Pitcher of the Week honor for the second straight week and third time this season. He becomes the 13th pitcher in Big 12 history to collect three or more of the weekly honors in one season. The last league hurlers to win three Pitcher of the Week honors were Taylor Jungmann (Texas) and Ross Stripling (Texas A&M) in 2011.

Langford (Player of the Week) and Nurdin (Newcomer of the Week) are first-time recipients.

Lawton Langford, Baylor, Jr., 2B, Uvalde, Texas/Uvalde
Langford was the catalyst for the Baylor offense in a 4-0 week as he hit .438 (7-for-16) with six RBI, three runs, three walks, two steals and a double. Compiling a .526 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage, Baylor’s leadoff hitter reached base in all four games to extend his career-high on-base streak to 35 games. The streak is also the highest in the Big 12 this season. At Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, he had two RBI, two walks, one double, run and steal. In the series opener against Texas, he went 3-for-5 with three RBI. In Game 2 versus Texas, he had a hit, RBI, walk and steal. In the finale against Texas, he was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Harrison Musgrave, West Virginia, So., LHP, 6-1, Bridgeport, W.Va./Bridgeport
Musgrave led the Mountaineers to a 1-0 win in game one against Kansas with a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits (three infield hits) in 9.0 innings. The sophomore struck out five, walking just one, in the 111 pitch effort. Musgrave retired the Jayhawks in order in the first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth innings.

It was the second-consecutive complete game shutout that Musgrave has had after beating Texas, 1-0, on April 19. Musgrave has a scoreless innings streak of 25.0 in which he has allowed 13 hits and has struck out 16, walking five. For the season, he is 7-1 with a 2.36 ERA in 11 starts. Currently, he is riding a six-game winning streak and has yet to lose in Big 12 play, posting a 4-0 record. In conference play, he has a 0.97 ERA, striking out 36 in 37.0 innings and has allowed just four earned runs.

Tyler Nurdin, Oklahoma State, So., LHP, Fort Worth, Texas/Temple JC
Nurdin tossed a complete game shutout against Nebraska Saturday at the TD Ameritrade Classic in Omaha, Neb., to earn his first career win in an Oklahoma State uniform.

In the 4-0 victory, the sophomore southpaw allowed just four hits – all singles – while striking out four and not issuing a walk. Nurdin faced just three batters over the minimum and needed only 94 pitches to complete the gem, with 75 of those being strikes. At one point, he retired 11-straight Husker hitters, and only two NU runners advanced past first base, both of those coming in the sixth inning.

Nurdin’s complete game was just the third by an OSU pitcher this season and only the second in a game that spanned nine innings, while the shutout was the second by a Cowboy hurler in 2013. In improving to 1-2 on the season, Nurdin lowered his ERA to 1.95, which ranks seventh in the Big 12.
