Iowa State's Style Of Play Turned Inside Out
November 03, 2013
By Wendell Barnhouse | Correspondent

Story line
With the loss of two starting post players, Iowa State's playing style will do a 180. Instead of trying to get the ball inside to Chelsea Poppens and Anna Prins (who combined for 24 points and 11 rebounds per game), the Cyclones will rely on a four-guard attack. All-Big 12 forward Hallie Christofferson, a 6-3 senior, will transition to the post after playing on the perimeter last season. Christofferson, though, is still a 3-point threat and along with guard Brynn Williams and Kidd Blaskowsky was one of three Iowa State players to make more than 40 3-pointers. Junior point guard Nikki Moody led the Big in assists.

Coach: Bill Fennelly, 396-182 in 18 seasons; 562-235 in 25 seasons overall.
Last season: 24-9 overall, 12-6 in Big 12, 2nd.
NCAA Tournament: Lost in second round.

Top players
Senior forward Hallie Christofferson, junior guard Nikki Moody, junior guard Brynn Williamson, sophomore guard Nicole "Kidd" Blaskowsky, freshman guard Jadda Buckley, freshman guard Seanna Johnson.

Coach Fennelly says
"You lose great people. We lost three great seniors and now it's someone else's turn. The neat thing about college sports is that things change. Last year, we had some length and size. This year, we don't have length and size. We'll be a four-guard team this season. Hopefully, we can beat people off the bounce a little better and create more with our defense."

Hallie Christofferson led the Cyclones in field goal percentage (.516), three-point percentage (.401), free-throw percentage (.862) and points per game (15.6). She's the only returning player in the country to lead her team in those categories. … Christoffereson also one of just two players nationally to shoot .500 from the field, .400 from beyond the arc and .800 from the free throw line. … In the preseason rankings, Iowa State is No. 20 in the USA Today/coaches poll and No. 23 in the Associated Press poll. … The Cyclones have had 10-straight winning seasons. … Iowa State has won 70-straight regular season nonconference games at Hilton Coliseum. The streak dates back to the 2003-04 season.
