Christofferson and Romero Named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Players of the Week

Hallie Christofferon (Iowa State) and Leticia Romero (K-State) were selected for the season’s first Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball weekly honors, as chosen by a media panel. Christofferson earned her second career award after picking up a freshman of the week honor in 2011.

Hallie Christofferson tallied a career-high 32 points and 11 rebounds in Iowa State’s 84-55 win over North Dakota. Her 32 points is tied for the 10th-most scored in ISU history. It also marked her 12th-career double-double. Christofferson was one of 10 Big 12 players to record a double-double in the first week of play (including teammate Kidd Blaskowsky), and her 32 points led all Big 12 scorers. Christofferson went 11-for-18 from the field at a .611 clip, tying a career high in field goals made and setting a career-high with 18 field goal attempts. She also went 7-of-8 (.875) from the free-throw line.

Leticia Romero, K-State, G, Las Palmas, Spain
Leticia Romero earned starts in her first two collegiate games and helped K-State to a 2-0 record with averages of 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists.  In her first career game she registered a team-high 16 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in just 27 minutes of action during K-State’s win over Tennessee State. Romero followed that with her first career 20-point game with 25 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field and 10-of-14 from the foul line against Charlotte. She also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds and dished out a team-best three assists.  For the week Romero hit .765 of her field goal attempts and .750 from the free-throw line.
