Current WBB Notes in PDF

The Big 12 is the only conference in which 40 percent of its teams have one-or-fewer losses on the season and one of just two leagues with at least four teams with no more than one loss.

The Big 12 opened its 18th season of conference play with road teams winning seven of the first eight matchups.

Six Conference teams are in the top 22 of the Jeff Sagarin RPI ratings and in the top 43 of the Collegiate Basketball News ratings.

The Big 12 leads all Division I conferences in rebounding with an average of 43.26 a game and is third in scoring with 75.81 points.

Iowa State is one of just five unbeaten teams nationally.

The Conference wrapped up the majority of non-league play with an 89-27 record (.767). The lone non-conference game remaining is top-ranked Connecticut at Baylor on Jan. 13.

Every Big 12 team completed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a winning record for the seventh consecutive season. Four teams finished non-league play with 10-or-more victories.

This week’s Big 12 Women’s Basketball Podcast will be available Thursday afternoon with Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly and a Cyclone player. The weekly schedule is on page 2.

Sixty percent of Big 12 teams are either ranked or receiving votes in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls. Rankings are listed on page 2. The new coaches poll will be released on Tuesday.

Odyssey Sims (Baylor) claimed her third Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season, while Jadda Buckley (Iowa State) picked up her second-straight freshman award and third out of the last four weeks.

Tickets for the 2014 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship are on sale through Ticketmaster outlets and the Chesapeake Energy Arena box office.
