Kansas' Chelsea Gardner was named espnW Player of the Week after leading the Jayhawks past No. 7 Baylor, 76-60, on Sunday afternoon. It is the first national weekly accolade for the junior forward.
Gardner recorded her fifth double-double of the season and 11th of her career with 28 points and 13 rebounds against the nationally ranked Lady Bears. The DeSoto, Texas native, also recorded three blocked shots to bring her career total to 95, moving her to ninth place in Kansas women's basketball history.
This marks the first time this season that a Jayhawk has earned a national weekly award and second weekly honor that Gardner has received this year, as she was voted the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 16, 2013.
Charlie Creme, Graham Hays, Michelle Smith and Mechelle Voepel each vote to determine espnW's national player of the week, which is awarded every Monday of the women's college basketball season.
The Jayhawks continue their Big 12 slate with No. 11 Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. inside Allen Fieldhouse.
