Big 12 women's basketball opens the regular season on Friday with a full slate of non-conference games over the weekend.

The Big 12 has seventy percent of its teams either ranked or receiving votes in the national preseason polls. Baylor is the top-ranked squad in both polls for the second straight season and remained in that position each week of 2011-12.

No. 1/1 Baylor and No. 23/24 Oklahoma State open the new season with winning streaks that carried over from last year. The Lady Bears have won 40-straight games after going undefeated during their national championship run. OSU ended 2011-12 on a six-game win streak to capture the WNIT title.

The Big 12 enters 2012-13 on a five-year run as the No. 1 conference in RPI and a 13-year streak as the nation's attendance leader.

Baylor teammates Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims were named to the preseason Associated Press All-America team. Kansas' Angel Goodrich received votes. Griner became just the third two-time unanimous choice after receiving all 40 votes. Only five other players have earned unanimous status, including former Big 12 player Courtney Paris (Oklahoma). Griner is on the preseason team for the third straight year.

Baylor and Kansas are among six schools that have more than one player on the preseason "Wade Watch" list. Brittney Griner (Baylor) earned the award last year and returns to the list along with teammate Odyssey Sims, Carolyn Davis and Angel Goodrich (Kansas), and Chassidy Fussell (Texas).

Big 12 women's basketball coaches combined have amassed a 2,762-1,325 record (.676 win percentage) and average 12.6 years of major college head coaching experience.

The Big 12 leads all leagues with five players as Senior CLASS Award candidates - Brittney Griner (Baylor), Chelsea Poppens (Iowa State), Angel Goodrich (Kansas), Brittany Chambers (K-State) and Whitney Hand (Oklahoma).

The individual leader in 11-of-13 conference statistical categories returns to the league this year.

Seven squads in the 2012-13 Big 12 lineup were 20-game winners last season, including Baylor's record-40 victories.
