Kansas State Faces Several Challenges This Season
November 06, 2012
Story line
When the preseason poll for Big 12 women's basketball is announced each October, Kansas State is typically picked to finish in the bottom half of the standings. Each of the last two seasons, the Wildcats were picked to finish ninth; last season they finish tied for fourth and in 2010-11 they finished tied for third. This season, Kansas State is picked to finish ... wait for it ... ninth. Coach Deb Patterson has made it a habit to surprise the prognosticators but this season could require considerable over achieving. The Wildcats return two starters and both are the only seniors on a roster that has no players listed higher than 6-foot-1.

Coach: Deb Patterson, 320-189 in 16 seasons.
Last season: 20-14 overall, 9-9 in Big 12, tied 4th.
NCAA Tournament: Lost in 2nd round..

Top players
Senior guard Brittany Chambers (14 ppg, 6.2 rpg), senior guard Mariah White (5.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.8 assists per game), junior forward Chantay Caron, sophomore guard Haley Texada, sophomore guard Ashia Woods, freshman forward Stacey Malone, freshman forward Brianna Craig, freshman guard Kendra Spresser.

Coach Patterson says
"I think the number one thing on my mind is that we have the opportunity to bring to the floor one of the league's premier guards in Brittany Chambers. I think in the history of Kansas State, we have not had the pleasure of coaching the young lady that has a sophomore and junior was the first team all-Big 12 in a long time. I'm hopeful that we can put her in position through the course of this competitive season in this great league to continue to achieve at that level. I think she's the next level player."
