Big 12 Women's Basketball Opens the 2013-14 Season

Seventy percent of Big 12 teams are either ranked or receiving votes in one of the two national preseason polls. Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are rated in both. West Virginia and Texas received votes in the AP edition while WVU and K-State were vote-getters in the coaches poll.

The Big 12 enters 2013-14 on a six-year run as the No. 1 conference in RPI and a 14-year streak as the nation’s average attendance leader.

The individual leader in 6-of-13 conference statistical categories returns to the league this year.

Big 12 rosters will feature 52 true or redshirt freshmen in 2013-14.

The Big 12 led all leagues in non-conference win percentage the last three seasons (2011-13).

Every Big 12 team has completed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a winning record for six consecutive seasons.

Big 12 women’s head coaches have amassed 2,777 career wins at the NCAA Division I women’s basketball level and six have over 300 victories a piece. Bill Fennelly (Iowa State), Deb Patterson (K-State) and Sherri Coale (Oklahoma) have coached at their respective schools every year of the Big 12’s existence.

Six Big 12 squads were 20-game winners in 2012-13 topped by Baylor’s 34 victories.

Odyssey Sims (Baylor), Hallie Christofferson (Iowa State) and Aaryn Ellenberg (Oklahoma) were named to the John R. Wooden Award Women’s Preseason Top 30 by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

Odyssey Sims (Baylor) and Aaryn Ellenberg (Oklahoma) are two of 25 candidates on the 2013-14 preseason Wade Watch list.

Odyssey Sims (Baylor) and Hallie Christofferson (Iowa State) were named candidates for the 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award.

Odyssey Sims (Baylor) was named to the Preseason Associated Press All-America Team for the second straight season.
