The Big 12 went 6-3 in the first weekend of NCAA play with Iowa State and Texas advancing to Regional Semifinal matches. It is the second straight year both teams have moved on past the second round. The Conference has sent multiple teams to regional play every year except in 2002.

The Cyclones are making their fifth overall regional appearance (2007-'09, ‘11). ISU advanced to the regional finals match last season (lost to Florida State) and in 2008 (lost to Texas). With its wins last weekend, ISU improved to 7-1 in first round action, 5-2 in the second round and 14-7 overall. Iowa State will face second-ranked and No. 2 national seed Stanford in Berkeley on Friday night with the chance to play the winner of the Michigan-Michigan State matchup.

The Longhorns will host 15th-ranked and No. 14 national seed Florida in Austin on Friday night. The two teams met on August 31 when UT swept the Gators. Texas is making its 24th regional appearance and has advanced to the regional finals on 17 occasions with a 17-6 mark in regional semifinal play. Should the Horns advance, they will play the winner of Southern California-Wichita State. With its wins last weekend, UT improved to 26-0 in the NCAA first round and 13-5 in the second round.

The Big 12 has sent 45 teams to regional play all-time and is 24-19 in regional semifinal action. In addition to Iowa State and Texas' first round wins last week, Kansas and Oklahoma advanced to the second round, giving the league 79 overall second round teams. The Big 12 is 76-23 in NCAA first round action, 45-34 in second round play and 161-98 overall.

Iowa State heads to Berkeley with a 12-match win streak intact. The Cyclones have not lost since Oct. 17 and are 21-4 since opening the season with a 1-3 mark.

This marked the fourth straight season five or more Big 12 teams have earned bids to the NCAA postseason event. The league has sent at least five teams to the tournament in all but one season.

Kansas made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2005. The 2012 Jayhawks finished the year as the winningest team in program history (.765), collected more home wins (17) than any other year, earned a program-best No. 6 RPI ranking and posted its highest Big 12 Conference finish (3rd, 12-4).

Iowa State and Texas finished 2012 undefeated at home in league play. The feat has been achieved on 20 total occasions, including six other times by Texas. This marks the third season (2005, ‘07) that multiple teams have been perfect in conference play at home.

For the second straight year, six or more Big 12 teams have recorded 20+ wins. This marks just the third time in league history that six-plus squads have hit the 20-win mark (six in 2011 & seven in 1997).

The Big 12 is 100-32 (.758) against non-conference competition this year, including an 11-10 record against ranked teams outside the Big 12.
