Texas Leads Weekly Swimming and Diving Honors

Four student-athletes received Big 12 swimming and diving weekly honors for competition through Sunday, Jan. 20. Adam Szilagyi (TCU) was honored with the men's swimming award and Richard Pokorny (West Virginia) received the diving accolade. On the women's side, Gretchen Jaques (Texas) earned swimmer of the week, while Maren Taylor (Texas) garnered the diver award. This is the first career recognition for Szilagyi and Jaques and the second for Pokorny. Taylor picked up her third honor of the season and sixth overall.

Men's Swimmer of the Week
Adam Szilagyi, TCU, Fr., Szazhalombatta, Hungary
Szilagyi was one of the key's to TCU's first Big 12 win at West Virginia Friday night. The freshman led off in TCU's 200 medley relay win. The Hungarian also picked up two key wins in the 100 back and 100 fly. The 200 free relay team would have finished first had the Horned Frogs elected not to exhibition the event. Szilagyi is TCU's team leader in the 100 back and 100 fly and a member of all five fastest relays for the Frogs. He also ranks second on the team in the 200 back and 200 free. Szilagyi has recorded multiple NCAA ‘B' cuts in the 100 back.

Women's Swimmer of the Week
Gretchen Jaques, Texas, So., Covina, Calif.
Against Auburn, Jaques defeated U.S. Olympian Micah Lawrence in the 100 breaststroke and finished just behind teammate Laura Sogar, UT's record holder in the event. The sophomore helped UT to victory in the 200 free relay with an impressive 22.44 relay split and added a NCAA "B" cut with her 53.77 in the 100 fly. Jaques registered an impressive victory in the 100 freestyle at Georgia, where she defeated UGA All-American Megan Romano.

Men's Diver of the Week
Richard Pokorny, West Virginia, Jr., East Concord, N.Y.
Pokorny had his top meet of the season, placing first in both events against TCU in West Virginia's first Big 12 competition. On the 1-meter board, he scored a 306.82 and nabbed the top spot in the 3-meter with his score of 350.92.

Women's Diver of the Week
Maren Taylor, Texas, Jr., Alexandria, Va.
Taylor swept the 1 and 3-meter boards at Auburn with scores of 324.60 and 293.18, respectively. She also added a 1-meter victory at Georgia with a score of 325.73.
