The Baylor and Oklahoma men’s squads punched their tickets to the NCAA Championship’s Round of 16, while four women’s teams claimed first round victories.
On the men’s side, Baylor is going to the Round of 16 for the 12th-straight year after a 4-2 victory over No. 25 Tulsa. The 13th-ranked Bears will face No. 4 UCLA in Los Angeles Thursday at 4 p.m. CT.
With a 4-0 win over North Carolina State at Headington Family Tennis Center, the Oklahoma Sooners advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2010. OU will face third-seeded Georgia Thursday at 9 a.m. in Urbana, Ill.
On the women’s side, No. 18 Texas notched a 4-0 win over William & Mary (17-6) in the opening round. UT advanced to Sunday’s round of 32 where it will meet host No. 14 Virginia at Noon.
The No. 29 TCU women’s team secured a 4-1 first round victory over No. 60 North Texas Saturday morning at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The Horned Frogs claimed their first NCAA Championship victory since a 2009 win over Tulsa in the first round. The win sets up a matchup with Texas A&M Sunday at 1 p.m.
Oklahoma State defeated Long Beach State 4-0 Saturday to advance in the tournament for the first time since 2001. The Cowgirls will return to the Los Angeles Tennis Center Sunday to face UCLA at 2 p.m.
No. 17 Texas Tech (20-6) rolled past No. 71 College of Charleston (20-9) in the first round Saturday at the McLeod Tennis Center. The Lady Raiders, who won their first NCAA Championship match in school history, will face No. 15 Duke in the second round at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Three other teams were knocked out of the tournament Saturday. Texas men lost a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to 12th-seeded Texas A&M in the second round Saturday evening. The 21st-ranked Longhorns end the season with a 17-9 record.
The 20th-ranked Baylor women’s team dropped a 4-2 decision against No. 1 seed and 11th-ranked Northwestern in the second round at the Combe Tennis Center. With the loss, Baylor ends its season with a 17-15 record.
Oklahoma women’s tennis fell 4-1 to Arizona State in the first round in Athens, Ga., Saturday. The Sooners finish the season at 13-10 overall.
