Gant and Hand Earn Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

Danielle Gant (Texas A&M) was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Whitney Hand (Oklahoma) was selected Freshman of the Week by a media voting panel for games of Jan. 5-11. Gant was recognized for the third time in her career while Hand picked up her second award of the season.

Danielle Gant averaged a team-leading 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 2.0 steals, while shooting 70 percent from the floor and perfect from the free throw line against Florida State and Missouri combined. She led No. 3/6 Texas A&M to just its second win against Missouri in Columbia with a game-high 22 points. The senior guard/forward shot a career-best 10-for-10 (1.000) from the floor and 2-for-2 (1.000) from the charity stripe. It marked her 14th career 20-point game and extended her current double-digit scoring streak to four-straight games. Gant also added seven rebounds and four assists in 36 minutes of action against the Tigers. Her perfect performance from the field set the A&M single-game record previously held by former player Lisa Jordon (9-of-9) versus Oregon State on Dec. 5, 1987. Gant is two rebounds shy of moving into third in career rebounds (781) at A&M. 

Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshman of the Week

Whitney Hand scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished a career-high four assists in the Sooners’ 77-56 win at Nebraska to open the Big 12 season. She added two steals and one block in her team-leading 27 minutes against the Huskers. The Fort Worth, Texas, native did most of her work in the first half as she helped OU open the game with a 15-0 run. Hand totaled eight points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 17 first-half minutes. She is the Big 12 freshman leader in scoring (9.2) and has made at least two 3-pointers in five consecutive games.
