Reigning Big 12 regular season champion Oklahoma State and newcomer West Virginia will open the 2012 season ranked in the preseason NSCAA/Continental National Rankings.

The Cowgirls, who finished the 2011 campaign with a program-best 22-2-2 record, landed at No. 5 in the poll, the school's highest ever preseason ranking. Oklahoma State has won four consecutive regular season crowns and advanced to the Elite Eight two consecutive times. The team will return six starters for 2012, including All-American goalkeeper Ad Franch and leading goal scorer Taylor Mathews.

The Mountaineers begin the 2012 season ranked No. 20 in the preseason poll. Last season, WVU put together a 17-5-0 record before appearing in its 12th consecutive NCAA tournament. In its first season in the Big 12, WVU will welcome 12 newcomers to the team for the 2012 campaign.

Outside of the top-25, Baylor is listed in the poll as one of 13 schools receiving votes.

All nine Big 12 teams open the 2012 season on August 17.
