Ashley York (Baylor) and Sara Keane (West Virginia) have earned the first Big 12 Soccer weekly accolades of the 2013 season for games played from Aug. 23-26. In her debut as a Baylor Bear, York tallied seven points on three goals and an assist in Baylor’s 2-0-0 opening weekend. Baylor started the season with a pair of 5-0 wins. In Friday’s win over UTSA, York took her first collegiate shot in the eighth minute from the box off a rebound and found the back of the net to put the Bears up 2-0. In Sunday’s match against Northwestern State, York had the game-winning assist as she set up Bri Campos in the box with a cross pass from the left wing for BU’s first goal in the fourth minute. York then added the Bears’ third and fourth goals. The first came from the box as she kicked one home after an Anjadai Seals throw-in and Kat Ludlow pass in the 53rd minute. Despite giving up two goals in 72 seconds at No. 2 Penn State last Friday, Keane survived an offensive onslaught from the 2012 national runners-up and delivered a season-opening 2-2 draw for the Mountaineers. Kean faced 21 PSU shots, including 10 on-goal, 10 corner kicks, and made eight saves, matching her career high. She also helped the Mountaineers to a 2-1 victory over Syracuse on Sunday. Keane saw nine shots and six corner kicks and made four saves.
