West Virginia clinched the 2013 Big 12 regular season championship last Friday with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Oklahoma in Norman. This marks the third time a program has won back-to-back regular season championships (Texas A&M, 2005-07 and Nebraska, 1999-2000).
Sunday’s matchup in Lawrence between Oklahoma and Kansas will determine the final team to make the 2013 Big 12 Soccer Championship. All seven of the league’s other teams have secured one of the eight spots. Official championship pairings will be announced Friday, Nov. 1 following the completion of the final conference matches.
Texas Tech ranks No. 1 nationally in multiple team statistics including. The Red Raiders’ .32 goals against average ranks No. 1 nationally. TTU’s .778 shutout percentage also ranks No. 1 nationally – Tech has shutout 14 of its 18 opponents on the season.
Through two months of play each team's goal against average stands at less than 1.85. Three teams are allowing fewer than one goal each game Texas Tech (0.32), Baylor (0.68) and Texas (0.70).
